This nativar is an excellent bird attracter with its bright red berries in the fall and winter. Good rain garden plant as it is salt tolerant and does well in moist, well-drained soil.

In-Depth Description

‘Winter Red’ is a female clone that needs a male pollinator to produce the attractive red berries that are the signature of the winterberries. Generally, one male winterberry (such as I. verticillata ‘Southern Gentleman’) will be sufficient for pollinating 9-10 ‘Winter Red’ plants.
