Peach trees are native to the region of Northwest China between the Tarim Basin and the north slopes of the Kunlun Mountains, where they were first domesticated and cultivated. Peaches (Prunus persica) were introduced to North America by Spanish monks around St. Augustine, Florida, in the mid-1500s.
