In-Depth Description
Caryopteris x clandonensis, commonly called bluebeard, blue spirea or blue mist, is a low-mounded, deciduous shrub that is valued for its aromatic foliage and late summer flowers which are said to resemble clouds of blue smoke or mist. Although Caryopteris has the common name of Blue Spirea, it is not a Spiraea. The genus Caryopteris comprises roughly 15 species, most being native to Asia. Only a few of these species are grown in North America as ornamentals. The majority of the ornamental selections sold here are hybrids: Caryopteris x clandonensis is a hybrid between Caryopteris incana and Caryopteris mongholica.
