In-Depth Description

Note: The scientific name Aronia has recently changed to Photinia.

Mark Brand, a professor of horticulture at UConn’s College of Agriculture, Health and Natural Resources, has patented several modified forms of Black Chokeberry that make this native plant more useful for landscaping purposes. With innovations in the form of shape and size, the new forms of these native plants still retain their natural assets, including their ability to grow in sunlight or partial shade and a variety of soil types, withstand cold temperatures, and require little maintenance in the landscape. Beautifying difficult areas, this plant attracts butterflies and is deer and rabbit resistant.
