Our Soil Scientist, Cynthia Rabinowitz, is often called upon to assist towns with wetland questions and identification. Since the State of CT identifies wetlands based on soil types, NWCD works to promote understanding of wetland soils and their value.
Wetlands serve many vital functions such as flood control, nutrient and sediment removal, groundwater recharge, wildlife habitat, fisheries, as well as many opportunities for recreation.
We have also presented numerous wetland education programs including field identification of wetland soils. The better we understand wetlands, the better the job we can do protecting them.
