Tyler Anderson, NWCD Scholarship

I am a recent graduate of Housatonic Valley Regional High School and will be attending SUNY Cobleskill in the Fall of 2025. My initial major will be Agricultural Power Machinery to earn an associate’s degree. My career goal is to become an agricultural equipment mechanic. Throughout high school, I was involved with the Housatonic Valley FFA Chapter. I competed within many different agricultural events at all levels. I also held a leadership position each year within our Chapter, most recently serving as Treasurer. Being involved with the FFA and currently working for one of the largest dairy farms within the State of Connecticut, has solidified my decision to obtain a degree for a career within the agricultural industry.

Gyandev Phinney, NWCD Scholarship

I am a 2025 Graduate from Lakeview High School and was formerly a student at Wamogo Regional High School before it merged with Litchfield to become Lakeview. I am attending Cornell University with a major in Agricultural sciences, but I plan on double majoring or minoring in the environmental science field. I was a member of the Wamogo FFA Chapter, where I developed my love for agriculture and sustainable practices. I hope to one day become an agricultural educator so I can spread what I’ve learned about sustainability and agriculture to future generations for them to build upon and develop.

Logan Derochick, NWCD Scholarship

I am a 2024 graduate of Northwestern Region 7 High School. I am currently taking classes at CT State Community College at both the Tunxis and Northwestern Campuses, majoring in Natural Resources. I plan to transfer to a 4 year college in 2 years to get my bachelor’s in Wildlife Biology/Conservation and get a job as a Wildlife Ecologist or Biologist. I became interested in this field when my life-long love for hiking and the outdoors combined with a passion for science.

Dana Saccardi, NWCD Scholarship

I am attending the University Of Connecticut at Storrs. My major is Natural Resources with a concentration in water conservation. I became passionate about the environment in high school, when I joined my Envirothon team where we learn about four areas on the environment: forestry, soil, wildlife, and aquatics. That is where my interest in the environment sparked and now when I entered college I wanted to continue learning about nature, so I could then work in something I love and want to protect.

Noah Green, Jacolyn ‘‘Jackie’’ Mott Scholarship

I am a 2023 graduate of Northwestern Regional H.S. and I am currently attending The University of Connecticut, Storrs, majoring in Natural Resources. I was driven to this field of study by a long-time passion for the outdoors. I plan to use the education I receive now to help me pursue a career where I can work in the outdoors and have a positive impact on the environment and my community.

Aiden Cherniske, Rev. Ledlie Laughlin Scholarship

I am attending Bucknell University, majoring in Computer and Electrical Engineering. I am currently taking an introductory engineering course with a focus on designing sustainable technology. I’ve also been able to participate in the Renewable Energy Scholars organizat ion which actively seeks for ways to increase sustainability on campus. Our current projects include a complete overhaul of a Growing Spaces Greenhouse with solar and water recycling. I look forward to continuing to get more involved in this project and other clubs and organizations as I settle into college life.

During my high school years, I have had the privilege of learning all about CT’s natural resources and wildlife ecology through my natural resources class. I’ve also been able to work as a Forest Technician for the Southbury Audubon for the past three years, monitoring and caring for bird species and habitat. Now, through my college and major choice, I have been able to study and learn more about environmental stability, the ecosystem, and wildlife ecology which I plan to help me in my future goals of becoming a Fish and Game Warden.
